Avery's is Crawling!

Everything I've read so far around developmental milestones state that babies typically begin to crawl around 7 to 10 months. Well Miss Avery must have been determined because she figured it out at 5 1/2! We are not ready for this by any means! It's definitely time to baby proof the house!

She looked like she was going to try and crawl while we were in Florida last weekend and sure enough, she did.  Here's a video:

And now, just one week later, she's mastered the scoot!

At 5 months Avery just learned how to sit up so we decided it was time
that that we take our first family portrait.  Here are a few of our favorites.

Summer Vacation: Port Aransas, Texas

Driving from Austin to Port A takes about 3 1/2 hours.  This was our first road trip with Avery. She did a great job. Thank goodness for the iPad and all the fun apps we could play with.  It was a great way to kill some time in the car.

We spent most of the days by the pool. Dad (AKA Big Jim) made it out to the pool early enough each morning to reserve some great tables and lawn chairs right next to 2 of our favorite pools.

After a long day at the pool or beach, we headed back to the condo for some downtime.

Avery Is 5 Months Old

Baby Avery is 5 Months already!

Here's what all she's been up to:
  • She can roll and move all over the place. There's no leaving her unattended or unstrapped anymore!
  • Still loves to sleep in the car.
  • Take 3 naps a day: 9am, 12pm & 3pm
  • Eats anywhere between 8-10 times a day
  • Ate real food for the 1st time! Rice cereal is all we've tried so far. More to come soon.

  • Avery went to her first soccer game- it was the New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls!

  • Enjoys spending time with Family.

Happy First Father's Day

For Andrew's first Father's Day, we celebrated by getting a babysitter and going on a day date. Haha! Thank you Ginny! We had such a fun day. The morning started off with a 5 mile family run, then Ginny showed up and releaved us of all parenting duties for the rest of the afternoon.

We spent most of the day in Rockport, a cute beach town with lots of local shops surrounded by the ocean. With our sack lunch and packed cooler, we hoped in a tandem kayak and hit the sea.

We rented our kayak at North Shore Kayak Outdoor Center. Such a cool little shop.

Can you tell who's doing all the work here...

After 3 hours of kayaking we headed home for our first lobster boil of the season. With lobsters at just $5.99 per/lb Andrew couldn't resist the enormous 2lb lobsters! We could barley fit them all in the boiling pot. It was such a fun way to kick off the summer her in New England!

4 Months Old

Avery had her 4 month check up the the other day and it was a great success. Although she had 5 vaccines, she did a great job! Here are her new stats:

Height: 25 inches long (50 Percentile)

Weight: 12lbs 14oz (25 Percentile)

Appetite: She eats about 5oz every 3 hours. And, she's been approved to start solids at 5 months.

Evening Schedule: Recently we have tried to establish some sort of bedtime routine.
6:30pm: Avery Eats Dinner
6:45-7:45pm: Play Time
7:45-8:30pm: Bath & Story Time

8:30pm: Bedtime

She is finally sleeping in the nursery, but still wakes up anywhere between 1.5-3 hours throughout the night. It's definitely time for some sleep training!

Clothes: She's a string bean, wearing size 3-6 months for tops and dresses. Size 6 months for pants since she has such long legs.

Development: Avery has progressed so much this month. She loves to be on her tummy so she rolls over within seconds of being put down, and is constantly trying to escape from her bouncy seat (thank goodness there's a strap that keeps her in). She loves to do the "superman exercise" during tummy time and has a tight little stomach from it! She can grab at anything within reach and has started to shake & play with her toys a little more. She loves to laugh and talk and has become more agile, constantly grabbing her toes.

Laughter is Contagious

I find so much joy in Avery's growth and development.  It's amazing to me how quickly babies learn and change week-by-week.

Each week Avery finds a new voice from within. A few weeks ago her coos sounded soft and raspy, last week she started to growl like a bob cat and this week she's learned to yell. But the best sound of all has been her laugh! The first time Avery laughed was during bath time about a month ago, but it was such an isolated instance, I had forgotten how endearing that sound can be. Now her laughs are a little more frequent and even more charming.

Here, Avery is laughing at my sister's dog Delilah.
It's amazing how laughter can be so contagious.
