15 Weeks and Growing

Baby Bump Update

Baby Wilson is 15 weeks and 1 day today.  He/she weighs about 2.5 ounces and measures at 4 inches long (about the size of a navel orange). Baby's body proportions are becoming more normal in size as his legs now out-measure his arms.

Week 15: July 26, 2012

Nursery Splurge

I'm a little embarrassed to admit but at 5 weeks I ordered the crib. I know I know, it was a little soon, but you just can't pass up a good deal when you see one. This week I continued the shopping spree by ordering a chair and ottoman for the nursery. After months of searching (and Andrew can attest I did my research) I fell in love with one I could not live without. On my way home each day (around 6-7pm) I would stop in the furniture store and just sit in this chair, rocking myself for a good 10-15 minutes. I know the sales reps thought I was crazy but it was just so comfy! Decision made, nursery shopping complete! (Andrew, please don't hold me to that statement just yet :).

Hello 2nd Trimester!

Week 14: July 19, 2012

This week's big developments: Baby Wilson can squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his/her thumb (just like his daddy used to)! From head to bottom, he/she measures 3 1/2 inches (the size of a lemon) and weighs about 1 1/2 ounces. Baby is starting to develop an ultra-fine covering of hair, called lanugo, all over the body and baby's spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells this week.

Just now at 14 weeks my jeans are feeling a little snug although I've only gained 2lbs. Some of my favorite foods over the past few weeks have included pickles, cucumbers, all fruits and lemonade. The only discomfort I've been feeling lately is "round ligament pain" which is a short jabbing sensation or a sharp, stabbing pain around the abdomen when suddenly changing position. This is caused by the ligaments stretching to accommodate and support the growing uterus. Good news is it's perfectly normal and only last a few seconds.

Family Fun!

Unfortunately I don't have a belly pic this week. My sisters Kelly and Brittany came in town for a long weekend, New England style. Our activities consisted of raspberry picking, Newbury Street shopping, North End dinner (yes, including the cannolis) and a day out on the boat catching our own lobster for dinner. I already miss them!!

Old Wives Tales

For as long as Andrew and I have been together I've always known that my future was to be filled with a house full of boys and activities such as camping trips, Boy Scouts, soccer and food fights. But, after reading some of these old wives tales predicting "boy" or "girl," I am more optimistic that it could go either way.

Wives Tale Number 1
Carrying high means a girl and carrying low means a boy.
Carrying wide means a girls and carrying narrow means a boy.
For this one it maybe too early to tell but currently I feel I'm high (girl) but also narrow (boy).

Wives Tale Number 2
According to legend, you can tell the gender of the baby just by listening to the heartbeat. 140+ beats per minute indicates a girl, and below 140 a boy. The first time we heard the heartbeat at 10 weeks it was at 180 beats per minute. At 12 weeks it was at 170 beats per minute. Now this is screaming girl!

Wives Tale Number 3
Sweet or Sour?  Some people believe if you're craving sweets like ice cream or brownies this means it's a girl. If you're into salty or sour stuff, then it's a boy.  Considering I can't get enough pickles I'm thinking this means boy :).

Wives Tale Number 4
Chinese Birth Chart. This ancient method uses your age at conception and the month you did the deed to determine gender. Results: Boy
(http://www.parenting.com/chinese-gender-predictor)

Results
Although based on these old wives tales, the majority favors a boy... we'll have to wait until Aug 21 to find out the true results!

Feeling Peachy at 13 Weeks

 Week 13: July 12, 2012

Week 13 of pregnancy has probably been the most fun yet. Not only did we get to see our little bean this week but we also FINALLY shared the news with all of our friends. It's been so wonderful to hear everyone's love and and support. I've especially enjoyed hearing our friend's pregnancy stories and baby experiences as it's giving us a good picture of what to expect along the way!

Baby Growth Progress

Fingerprints have formed on the tiny fingertips, veins and organs are clearly visible through his/her still-thin skin, and the body is starting to catch up with the size of the head — which makes up just a third of the body.  Baby is almost 3 inches long and weighs nearly an ounce.

Belly Laughs

Over the last 3 months Andrew has been such an amazing husband and extremely involved in the entire pregnancy. Here are some of his quotes that have made me cry from laughing so hard!

Andrew to the car salesman:  "You know, having a kid isn't a very good financial investment, but we're excited."

Andrew to me at Target while checking out the demo cribs (1x2 ft.) displaying the different styles and fashions: "I've never really seen a crib before but I just don't get this! How can a baby sleep in this! And there's not way it can convert to a full size bed!! It's just way too small!!"

At the dinner table:
Andrew: "Do you think we can schedule to be induced on Dec. 29th?"
Erica: "Why would we want to do that?"
Andrew: "Because if we have the baby in 2012 instead of 2013 we can get the tax write off."

Andrew at all hours of the day: "Bailey, stop barking!! You'll wake the baby!"

First Baby Pictures

Today we had a great doctor visit! We started off the afternoon over at Beverly Hospital where we had our first sonogram. Baby Wilson was so active we saw him/her jump, flip, spin and wave "hello." Such a show off! Unfortunately it's too early to tell if it's a boy or girl but we did get one thing straight... Baby Wilson looked to be a mighty good athlete!

Baby Wilson Due Jan. 2013

Catching Up on the First Trimester

On Mother's Day we learned the positive baby news! The first 6 weeks were so much fun and I felt great until I was suddenly hit with nausea, 3 hour naps and major food aversions. At this point, it started to feel real. At this point Andrew had the great idea of documenting our weekly progress. He's not only the camera man but the weekly sign artist!
Week 7: May 31, 2012
 Week 8: June 7, 2012
Today we had our first visit with Essex County OB/GYN
The apt consisted of an exam, a long Q&A with our Nurse Midwife Nancy,
followed by unwillingly supplying 6 vials of blood samples (which confirmed I am Rh-Negative)

Week 9: June 14, 2012
The baby is the size of an olive.
Week 11: June, 28 2012
This was an exciting week for Andrew and I because we finally
told the family our exciting news!

12 Weeks: July 5, 2012
Baby Wilson is the size of a plum at 2.1 inches long and 0.49 ounces. At this point most of his/her systems are in place. The fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements and his/her bone marrow is busy making white blood cells.
