Hello 3rd Trimester!

We made it to the 3rd trimester! Only 12 more weeks to go until we meet our little girl.

Baby Developments

Baby Wilson weighs 2.5 pounds and measures about 13.6 to 14.8 inches. This week she's the size of an eggplant! She's starting to develop more fat, so her wrinkly skin will start to get smoother.  Her lungs are mature enough that she'd probably survive if she was born now (although we hope she stays put until she's at least full term!) She should be settling into the proper position for birth, with her head facing downward.  The skills she's been practicing include blinking, sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths. Her sleep now includes the REM (rapid eye movement) phase — and that means she could be dreaming already!

First Official Baby Shower

This Sunday will be my first official baby shower. I say first official as my sister-in-law planned a surprise shower while we were in Mexico. It was just family, but still counts :)!  This shower will be at Andrew's parents house. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone.

 Pictures to come next week!

Medical Update

Today was one of my longest doctor appointments ever! I had a few blood test, my glucose screening, Rhogam shot and of course a flu shot. I've gained a total of 16 lbs and the baby is measuring at a perfect size for 28 weeks.  At this point I'll start to go in every other week for check ups. Let the countdown begin!

Last Week of the 2nd Trimester!

I can't believe I'm in my last week of the second trimester. This pregnancy has flown by! I can almost taste my celebratory meal including a medium rare steak with a glass of champagne! Andrew is already planning our first date night post baby, only this time we may need a table for 3.

Baby Developments
This week baby Wilson is the size of a Rutabaga and her weight is just over 2lbs. By now, she recognizes the sound of my voice and is sleeping and waking at regular intervals. She can open and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, the brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. I've read that the baby can  hiccup but I haven't felt anything yet.

Week 27: October 18, 2012

Fall is Here!
One of my favorite times of year in Boston is Fall. The leave change color from green to bright orange and red, the air is crisp and dry and Halloween last for an entire month long (keep in mind we live in Salem).  This past weekend we went to a Fall Festive full of pumpkin carving, a parade and lots of apple cider.

Week 26 Update

Baby Developments

This week baby Wilson weighs a full two pounds and measures 13.6-14.8 inches.  About the size of a head of iceberg lettuce.  Her eyes, which until now were developing under fused eyelids, will start to open.  The network of nerves in her ears are better developed and more sensitive than before, allowing her to hear more. She's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of the lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she's born and takes that first gulp of air.

Week 26: October, 11 2012

No Pain No Gain!

Well I'm definitely feeling the pain of all this weight gain! So far I've gained a total of 14lbs. I feel extremely fortunate to have had an easy pregnancy for the first half.  Just recently, I have been feeling the aches and pains I've been reading about. Sleeping is becoming more difficult with this basketball of a belly. And the frequent charlie horse leg pains have been the culprit of my wee hour awakenings! And not to forget the back ache. Luckily with a long walk and some stretching (or a message from Andrew) this goes away. Although exercising has become slightly more difficult I'm still managing to play tennis one night a week, go for walks and lift small hand weights. I hope to keep this up until the very end!

25 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

Head to heels, baby Wilson is now measuring at about 13 1/2 inches.  She weighs about a pound and a half and is beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. Because of this weight gain, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also starting to grow hair. Under her skin, capillaries are forming and filling with blood. By week's end, air sacs, that are also lined with capillaries, will develop in her lungs, getting them ready for that first breath.

Week 25: October 4, 2012

Cranberry Festival
This weekend Andrew and I went to a Cranberry Harvest Festival in south MA close to Cape Cod. October is harvest season, so we were able to get a tour of the bogs and watch harvesting for juices and jams. Although the weather was cool and rainy, we learned a lot and had a great time!

Following the festival, we drove over to Lincoln, Rhode Island for dinner with Andrew's cousin Amber and Grandpa John.
