Half Way There!

Baby Developments 

This week baby Wilson weighs about 10 1/2 ounces and is around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel. This is about the length of a banana. She's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for the digestive system. Her favorite time of day to play is between 10:30-11:00pm. This week she was extremely active at this time performing somersaults and kicks. Sounds like a cheerleader to me!

Week 20: August 30, 2012

Nesting Progress
I can't believe we're at the half way mark! Very exciting! I can almost taste my celebratory medium rare steak and glass of champagne.  The last few weeks have been lots of fun. Andrew painted the playroom and the nursery this week which was a ton of work.

19 Weeks

Baby Developments
This week baby Wilson is supposed to weigh about 8 1/2 ounces (although she measured 10 ounces at our last appointment) and measures 6 inches long, about the size of a mango. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting.  Baby's sensory development is well underway.  Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch.

Week 19: August 23, 2012

Pregnancy Brain is For Real
Over the last few weeks, pregnancy brain has been taking over. At the grocery store I have misread just about every label on products I buy ALL THE TIME! I bought mango juice instead of orange juice, sugar free coffee creamer vs. fat free and I almost walked out with a gallon of whole milk (vs. skim).

Last Saturday night we hosted dinner for Andrews parents and Aunt. We had a great healthy meal full of meat and veggies although it just felt like something was missing. Well at 11pm I jumped out of bed remembering what it was, the twice baked potatoes I slaved over all afternoon! Luckily I had turned off the oven when we sat down to eat (you'd think that would trigger my brain that something was actually in the oven)! Sorry Wilson family, we're not on the Atkins Diet, I just have pregnancy brain!

It's a Girl!!

18 Week Sonogram
Yesterday we had our 18 week sonogram where the technician did an entire anatomy scan of the baby. At the end of the exam she told us we're having a GIRL! After a few more long looks at the baby we believed her :).

 

It was such a fun sonogram because we could finally see her entire body structure now that all the bones have grown in. Her legs looked long and her body actually looked a little squished in my tummy. The technician confirmed I'm right on track for my January 17th due date.  We're looking forward to painting the nursery gray and pink as well as buying adorable clothes... and of course a pink soccer ball.

18 Week Update

18 Week Baby Developments

Head to rump, baby is about 5 1/2 inches long and he/she weighs almost 7 ounces. The blood vessels are visible through the thin skin, and the ears are now in their final position. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around the nerves, a process that will continue for a year after the baby is born.

Maternity Clothes 
I had no idea maternity clothes were so comfortable! If I had known, I may have jumped on board much sooner. Just in the last week or so I've had so many client meetings that my sundresses just weren't cutting it. I broke down and bought a few work appropriate pants and tops that should get me through the winter. (Yes, to all you Texan's, I said winter! This is the season that comes as early as October here in Boston!) Surprising, they are just as stylish as my normal clothes.

What I'm Looking Forward To

Only a few more days until we find out if Baby Wilson is a boy or girl, considering he/she is willing to cooperate during the ultrasound. Luckily our appointment is at 8:00am so I'm willing to wait around as long as it takes to find out either way! As you can see, Andrew is already looking to buy a soccer ball for the baby. Just not sure yet if it should be pink or blue.

17 Weeks

Baby Developments

This week baby Wilson weighs about 5.9 ounces and is around 5 inches long from head to bottom (about the size of an onion). She/He is finally starting to develop some body fat to cover that little bony body.  The heart is now regulated by the brain and has a more steady beat, about 140 to 150 times per minute — about twice as fast as mine! This weeks developmental skills include sucking and swallowing.

What I Miss This Week

One thing I truly missed this week was being able to a have a glass of wine. Everyone who works in advertising knows that drinking and working often come hand in hand. This week our office had two great social events.  One being happy hour on a yacht with clients and another included a Beirut Tournament (beer pong) at the office.  Although I miss fully participating in these events, I know I will have an excuse to pull out the koozie again some day soon!

4 Months Already!

Belly Talk

I can't believe we are at Week 16. So far this pregnancy has flown by. One of the most exciting developments this week is that Baby Wilson can hear us. I think about this every time I'm in the car singing along to the radio. Andrew has also gotten a kick out of this new development. He has taken every opportunity to talk to our little one. Saturday morning I was sitting in the living room reading "What to Expect When Expecting" and Andrew ran up to me, put his mouth on my belly and started making trumpet noises and then motor boat noises, humming into my belly. It was only 7:30am so I hope our little one was already awake!  

This must have started the conversation because just a few days later, baby Wilson started talking back, by throwing out a few kicks, of course. Andrew and I were shocked to feel the little bubble movements. We're looking forward to feeling more as the baby grows!

Baby Developments

Other developments this week include the backbone and the back muscles.  They are strong enough for the baby to straighten his/her head and neck. The face now has eyebrows and eyelashes too. The crown-to-rump measurement is between four and five inches in length, and weight is around three ounces. This is about the size of an avocado.
