35 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

Baby Wilson doesn't have much room to maneuver now that she tips the scales at about 5 1/4 pounds. Although she's still extremely active, her movements have slowed a bit, except for when she decides to kick her foot up underneath my ribcage! Her kidneys are fully developed now, and her liver can process some waste products. Most of her basic physical development is now complete.  These last few weeks she'll focus on continuing to gain weight.

And the Count Down Begins

We only have 5 weeks left until we meet Baby Wilson, should she arrive on time. My doctor said they will let me go up to 2 weeks past my due date, but if this little one is anything like her daddy (punctual in every way) she'll be right on time! Now if she's like me, that's a different story. This past week I made, what I hope was, my last trip to BuyBuy Baby to finish out the necessities on our registry. I also packed my overnight bag for the hospital. Andrew has helped with a little nesting as well. He put together the pack 'n play for our bedroom which is where she will sleep for the first couple weeks.  Now we just need to make sure all those baby soothing gadgets work (swing, bouncer, humidifier, sleep sheep...).  Every night when Andrew and I brush our teeth before bed, we walk into the nursery and look all around or sit in the rocking chair, waiting in anticipation, I guess. We just can't wait to meet her!

34 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

This week baby Wilson weighs about five pounds and could be as tall as 20 inches by now.  Her tiny fingernails have probably reached the tips of his fingers and getting ready for her first manicure.  Her skin is smoother than ever now that she's added on some body fat.  These layers of fat will help regulate her body temperature once she's born. This will be very important as it's already snowed here twice this year!! Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well.

In the Holiday Spirt

Well the Christmas decorations are up and the parties have begun.  Last week we attended our favorite holiday party hosted by our Realtor here in Boston. It's a casino themed party with lots of great prizes and fun people.

Getting Ready For Baby

The nesting is FINALLY starting to kick in. This week I was able to wash my first couple loads of baby bedding, towels, clothes and I even packed my hospital bag. Andrew and I also attended a few of our parenting recommended classes such as "Parenting Preparation Education" and "Breastfeeding 101." I couldn't be more ready!

33 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

This week baby Wilson weighs a little over 4 pounds, and may grow up to a full inch over the next week! At this point her brain is coordinating breathing, sucking and swallowing. She's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and her skeleton is hardening. The bones in her skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for her to fit through the birth canal.  These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as her brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Santa's Workshop Has Taken Over Our House

Christmas is by far my favorite time of year. Evey year, Andrew and I pick out our Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving and have everything decorated within hours.... usually. Well suddenly pregnancy exhaustion has come full circle. Lately I haven't' been motivated to finish the decorating or to put away the shower gifts. For every ornament I put on the Chrismas tree, I think to myself, I'm going to have to take this down and wrap it up just 2 weeks before I'm due. Poor Andrew is living in Santa's workshop full of baby toys, shipping boxes and Christmas decor scattered about. I really hope the nesting desire kicks in soon. Only 7 more weeks until we become a family of 3.

Looking Forward To...

Finishing setting up the nursery. This weekend my goal is to finalize the window treatments, put on the bedding and set up/organize a few of the other gifts we've received. I'm also looking forward to my 34 week check up next week. It's always fun to hear her heartbeat and learn the progress she's made.

Happy Thanksgiving

32 Week Development Update

This week baby Wilson weighs almost four pounds and is 19 inches long. Our doctor has confirmed she has settled into the head-down, bottom-up position in preparation of her debut.  And because her body is accumulating more fat, her skin is turning opaque (like ours), looking more and more like a newborn.

Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. The Turkey Trot on Thursday was a success. I walked a little over 3 miles. The Maitland Family hosted a wonderful Thanksgiving event which lasted most of the day.

Back Row: Andrew, Reid, Neil and Jack
Front Row: Me, Demetria and Maureen

Friday we drove all around visiting Stonewall Kitchen and When Pigs Fly Bakery in Maine.  Then headed to Portsmouth NH for some shopping. Saturday was a little more low key.

Andrew and I cut down our own Christmas tree then spent the afternoon watching football with the Family. It was a nice long weekend.

31 Weeks on my 31st Birthday

Baby Developments

This week, baby Wilson measures over 16 inches long. Last week at our sonogram appointment baby Wilson weighed 3.5 pounds which puts her in the 55th percentile.  This is about the weight of a pineapple, which I believe is baby Wilson's favorite fruit. She can turn her head from side to side, and her arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath her skin. One thing I keep reading is she's heading into a growth spurt over the next few weeks. I can't even imagine getting bigger than I am now!

Weekend in Austin

I had the best weekend in Austin. The weekend was ridiculously busy! We shopped at Christmas Affair, ate plenty of Mexican food, celebrated my birthday and best of all, had a lovely baby shower!

 Kelly & I

 Me, Mom and Kelly

All the hostesses.  They did a fabulous job!

Kelly and I with our cousins Jenni and Kerri. Also pregnant!

THANKSGIVING!
This will be my 3rd Thanksgiving to spend with the Maitland Family (this is Andrew's Mom's family). Every year we run the Wild Turkey 5 Mile Run in Salem Thanksgiving morning then head over to Acton MA for an afternoon of great food and wine. This year will be a little different for me considering I'll be trotting a short walk the morning of and sipping cider, but all the same, I love holidays!

30 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

Baby Wilson is about 15.7 inches long now. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger. Her eyesight is developing and will continue after she's born.  For now, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face.

Early birthday Celebration before
Andrew travels for a week

Medical Update

Over the past week baby Wilson has been more active than usual. So active, that some of her moves have become to feel questionably unsafe. As a first time mom, this worried me so after talking with our OB, I was sent off to the hospital to make sure everything was alright. Good news is her heart beat is strong. I also took a test to predict if I could go into early labor. This came back negative. The only concerning information was that I am having contractions that are a little too frequent than I should be having at 30 weeks. I can't feel them so that is supposed to be a good sign.

The sonogram technician
said she has big lips and long legs!

AUSTIN
Austin is calling my name! I haven't been home in 5 months so I'm really looking forward to a long weekend in Austin. My sister Kelly is also pregnant and expecting a girl just 8 weeks after me. It's been so much fun going through this experience with her. We're having a joint baby shower on Saturday which will mostly consist of family. I'm really looking forward to spending time with everyone.

29 Weeks Pregnant

Baby Developments

Baby Wilson weighs a little over 2.5 pounds (the same weight as a acorn squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain. To meet her increasing nutritional demands, my doctor has asked me to increase my protein, vitamin C, fiber and iron intake.

Week 29: November 1, 2012

Boston Baby Shower

My mother-in-law and Aunt Ginny hosted a beautiful shower this past Sunday. The theme was pink so everything matched. There were about 18 people total including a mix of work friends, my tennis team and family. I'm so thankful for such a great shower and for everyone who attended. We had a great time!

Diaper Cake
I honestly could not believe how tiny these newborn diapers are!
Can you believe my Mother-in-law made this! So awesome!

Me with my mom and Andrew's mom

I couldn't wait to organize all the wonderful gifts as soon as I got home.
